FASHION VS SPORT
We often see fashion stories mixed with sports, making an exciting and sexy dichotomy between a very feminine and sometimes more masculine result. A lot of bigger designers have their hands in the 'sporty' pot- Stella McCartney for Adidas, Chanel's variations on sports that are always being shot by Vogue, Another, and V magazine...are just a few examples of the increasing proximity between the sports arena and the fashion world. P*O*N*Y* : ANNA-KATERINA KISSLING
A large part of our influence on the fashion world and the work we do isn't only based on fashion, but also on art, history and the people we meet and work with. Anna-Katerina Kissling, one of our fav muses that we often work with (we shot her for our SP/SU Hat look-book, and she has often helped Art-Direct our shoots) co-created PONY, (Pieces Of New York)- the logo of the pony head represents the 5 boroughs of NY and the site is largely influenced by her experiences as well as her creative mind & amazing vision. In addition, part of her PONY 'army' includes myself!...as 'Poetry of NY'.... wanted to share this experience with you!!

LEROY GRANNIS: LEGENDARY SURF PHOTOGRAPHER
LeRoy "Granny" Grannis was born in Hermosa Beach in 1917, and considered by many to be the premier photographer of California's thriving surf culture in the 60's and 70's, only starting his epic career at the age of 42 yrs old. The New York Times once called him the "godfather of surf photography". LeRoy was a surfer himself and got his start selling photographs for $1 to surfers on the beach. He went on to work as the head photographer of Surfing Illustrated and in 1964 co-founded International Surfing, now called Surfing magazine. He surfed well into his 80’s, until a hip injury forced him to stop. On February 3, 2011, Grannis died of natural causes at his home in Torrence at the age of 93.
