NICO: SILENT INSPIRATION

Nico's life was mysterious, brilliant, and tragic. Nico was born in Cologne, in Nazi- controlled Germany. At the age of 2 she was taken to Berlin with her mother and grandfather, but sadly her father died in a concentration camp. Nico grew up in Berlin and began modelling when she was a teenager. In 1959 Federico Fellini put her in his film La Dolce Vita. The statuesque blonde lived in Paris, then moved to New York in 1960, where she hung out with guys like Dylan, Jackson Browne and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones. She met Andy Warhol and the members of the band The Velvet Underground, and with them she recorded some of her best-known songs, including Lou Reed's "Femme Fatale" and "All Tomorrow's Parties." In the 1970s she made films, released solo albums and collaborated with John Cale, Brian Eno and David Bowie. In 1988 she fell off a bicycle and later died of a brain hemorrhage.

'Here she comes,
you'd better watch your step,
she's going to break your heart in two,
It's true.'

Silence: Sympathy & Faithful

Hats by Anda & Masha

'When the wind blows
and the rain feels cold
With a head full of snow
With a head full of snow
In the window there's a face you know
Don't the nights pass slow.'

ANNA KARINA: COCO CHANEL'S FIND

She may not be as well known as some movie icons, but Anna Karina, queen of French cinema’s New Wave, as well as a singer and writer, is arguably one of the most enchanting woman. All bangs and black cat-eyes, she might be described as the art-house brunette to Bardot’s blonde bombshell. Coco Chanel played an unlikely role in the discovery of this Paris import by way of Denmark, but Karina will forever be linked with Jean-Luc Godard who laid eyes on the actress in a Palmolive commercial and cast her in his 1960 flick Le Petit Soldat. The two eventually married. She played roles in Godard's, The Little Solidier, A Woman is a Woman (she won Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival), Vivre sa vie and Alphaville. Completely adorable...and we loooove all her hats!!

WE LOVE...FRENCH BOYS

Jean-Paul “Bébel” Belmondo, took the international film scene by storm in Jean-Luc Godard’s 1960 classic BreathlessBelmondo, the sexy and stylish star of the Nouvelle Vague (the new wave of cult French cinema), worked with leading directors from Louis Malle to Truffaut. In 1957, Alain Delon was spotted by Yves Allegret, who offered him a role in "Quand la femme s'en mele". This was the start of a long career of 82 films, shot with the greatest directors, from Antonioni, Visconti, Clement, Malle, and Melville...to name a few. He also had the sickest dating history- from Brigitte Bardot, Romy Schneider to the amazing, Nico (has a son with her). The infamous, Serge Gainsbourg as you know, was a French singer, songwriter, actor and director...and well...Vincent Cassel...Irreversible- the most disturbing but amazing movies, Mesrine, La Haine...Black Swan...just so brutal and rough! amazing...

YAYOI KUSAMA

Yayoi Kusama is best known for her obsession with polka dots, which she has painted since age 10 and applied to canvases, tree trunks, entire rooms and people...and now she is collaborating with Louis Vuitton for a whole collection of items w Marc Jacob (as artistic director). In the 60's she was influenced by the anti-vietnam war movement and the American Presidential election. In the 70's she was institutionalized in Japan for obsessive thoughts...which to this day she struggles with, but pours out into her art. She is a fascinating struggling soul, w complete madness... and she's absolutely amazing.
